Founded in 2017 by Michael Osheku, a Nigerian filmmaker and Events programmer based in Canada, the African Smartphone International Film Festival (ASIFF) is the first smartphone film festival in Africa. ASIFF is a groundbreaking platform that celebrates films shot or made using smartphones, tablets, or PCs, reshaping the narrative of filmmaking both on the continent and globally.
Our mission is to inspire and encourage professional, amateur, and aspiring filmmakers to share their stories using mobile devices, breaking traditional barriers to entry in the film industry. Smartphones, now recognized as one of the most affordable tools for filmmaking, empower creators to experiment and innovate, offering a unique blend of accessibility and creativity.
At ASIFF, we champion the innovative use of low-cost digital equipment to produce highly engaging and thought-provoking content. This form of filmmaking requires minimal training but opens up a world of limitless potential, making it possible for anyone, anywhere, to bring their stories to life.
Our Vision
ASIFF is committed to providing emerging filmmakers with an international platform to showcase their ideas, talent, and creativity, regardless of budget or production quality. By doing so, we aim to democratize the art of filmmaking, giving a voice to stories that might otherwise go untold.
